José Mourinho screening

José Mourinho screening

Here’s a José Mourinho training session with Real Madrid. This session was carried out during the pre-season course in the United States.
The primary objective is obviously physical work but also tactical work with the objective of setting up the game model, namely 4-2-3-1. As a reminder, Mourinho uses and is the precursor of the Tactical Periodization method.

Exercise 1: Physical workshops and reduced game.

The players change workshops every 4 minutes to keep the pace and not decrease in intensity.

Exercise 1: Physical workshops and reduced game.
Workshop 1: The blue player switches to the yellow player. Blue skips (ladder) then goes between the models. He receives the yellow ball. He passes in touch to the second yellow player then jumps over the hedges. He receives the ball from the second yellow player, controls and shoots.
Then he takes his ball and dribbles quickly until the next start (orange arrow) and repeats the exercise in the other direction.
Workshop 2: Reduced game 5 against 5. Free play but play with a touch of the ball is recommended. The terrain is really narrow and compact. The match is very intense and competitive, the players cannot hide or remain motionless because of this.
Coaching: technical quality, quick play and intensity are encouraged at all times.
This part lasts 20 minutes with every 4 minutes of workshop changes.

The circles make the combination indicated on the drawing below.

Coaching:

- Call against call before receiving
- Open your body and shoulders facing the game before receiving the ball
- One touch ball game
- Quality of the center
- Timing of the opposite winger entering the surface
Then the players achieve a return to calm with stretching.
Mourinho doesn't talk much during the exercises. They take advantage of breaks to ask their players' opinions on the exercises and on the points to be improved. And if during an exercise he has instructions to give to one of his players, he leaves the latter to talk to him and explain to him what he wants. Then two minutes later he re-enters his player.
Mourinho does not scream and talks very little during the exercises. He doesn't want to distract his players and break the rhythm and the intensity. Often during breaks he says to his players "I want more".
What do you think of this session? Do you think you can do this session with your players? Do you have questions about the exercises? Feel free to leave me your impressions in the comments area below.
